The Hot Rod DeVille sits at the top of Fender’s Hot Rod series, delivering more headroom, more speaker coverage, and more stage volume than its smaller sibling. Where the Hot Rod Deluxe gives you 40 watts through a single 12″, the DeVille pushes 60 watts through either two 12s or four 10s. It’s a gigging…
The model ran from 1964 through 1981, covering three distinct circuit revisions: the AA165 blackface, the AB668 late blackface, and the AA1069 silverface. A reissue under the ’68 Custom label has been in production since approximately 2013. Each version has its own character, and knowing which one you’re looking at matters whether you’re buying vintage…
You’re standing at rehearsal, staring down a room that’s too loud for a Deluxe Reverb to cut through but too small to justify hauling a Twin Reverb up two flights of stairs. The drummer is already hitting too hard. You need clean headroom, real spring reverb, and an amp that doesn’t require a roadie. That…
The short answer: it’s a digitally modeled amplifier that replicates the blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb’s AA763/AB763 circuit using a 100-watt Class D output stage to simulate 22 watts of 6V6 tube behavior. It’s not a tube amp. At matched volume levels, most players can’t reliably tell the difference in a blind test. At full stage…
The iconic 1965 blackface Super Reverb, a 40-watt 4×10 combo that defined the reverb era. What Is the Fender Super Reverb? The Super Reverb is a two-channel, 40-watt combo with a Normal channel and a Vibrato channel. The “vibrato” label on the panel is Fender’s persistent misnomer. It’s tremolo. True vibrato (pitch modulation) wasn’t part…
The Fender Blues Deluxe is a clean-sheet 1990s design with no direct circuit lineage to the 5E3 tweed Deluxe or the AB763 blackface Deluxe Reverb. It’s a 40-watt, PCB-built combo from Fender’s Hot Rod Series, first released in 1993; the Blues Junior followed in 1995 and the Hot Rod Deluxe in 1996. The tweed covering…
The circuit code is 5F6-A. Four inputs, two channels, four Jensen P10Rs in a lacquered tweed cabinet. Forty-five watts from a pair of 5881s. That single design, finalized in 1958 and built through 1960, spawned more clones, derivatives, and reverential copies than arguably any other amplifier in history. Jim Marshall financed its reverse-engineering. Ken Bran…
Most players assume the Hot Rod Deluxe is basically a blackface Deluxe Reverb with a gain channel bolted on. It isn’t. The PR246 circuit borrows the blackface tone stack topology but departs significantly in its gain staging, rectification, and reverb recovery design. That distinction matters when you’re shopping used, choosing tubes, or trying to understand…
The pilot light is glowing. The tubes are warming up. The standby switch is flipped off. And there’s nothing, not a hiss, not a pop, not a single electron of audio reaching your ears. You’ve got a gig in 20 minutes, a studio session booked for the morning, or a brand-new amp out of the…
Amplification factor 100. That single number explains why the 12AX7 shows up in the preamp section of almost every tube amp ever built. Whether it’s a blackface Fender, a British stack, or a modern boutique combo, the odds are strong there’s at least one 12AX7 sitting in V1, doing the heavy lifting on input gain…
